Dr Ngaire Phillips
Aquatic Ecology/Ecotoxicology Specialist
Ngaire has more than 30 years’ experience as an environmental scientist, with specialist expertise in ecology and environmental toxicology. She has gained this experience through roles in government, academia and the private sector. She has a wealth of knowledge based on practical and extensive experience across a range of disciplines, including freshwater and estuarine ecology, ecotoxicology, and water quality, as well as assessment of effects associated of discharges to rivers, lakes and estuaries. Ngaire has also led research programmes with iwi partners that aimed to incorporate mātauranga into resource management plans. Ngaire regularly undertakes technical reviews and provides technical advice on water quality and ecological issues to Regional Councils, Territorial and Unitary Authorities and other clients. Ngaire has considerable experience in leading and participating in multi-disciplinary teams as a consultant, researcher, science manager and educator.
Ngaire is also a qualified RMA Independent Commissioner. She also holds several ministerial appointments as decision maker – as a member HSNO Committee for the EPA (a role she has held since 2015), as a Freshwater Commissioner for the Ministry for the Environment. She was also a member of a Special Tribunal to consider a Water Conservation Order under the RMA. Ngaire is also a qualified PRINCE2 (Project Management) practitioner and holds a Certificate in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors.
Ngaire joined Streamlined Environmental in July 2013 and became a Director in January 2014.
