Streamlined Environmental Director Dr Ngaire Phillips recently undertook a week-long intensive course run by the Institute of Directors, which explores director’s roles and responsibilities. As a Director, shareholder and employee, Ngaire, along with co-owner Mike Stewart, face many of the same challenges in running their small business as larger, more complex organisation, so professional development is important. The principles of good governance are relevant to businesses of all sizes. We were fortunate to obtain financial support for Ngaire’s attendance at the course through Te Waka and the NZTE capability development voucher system. In addition to practical experience through participation on a mock board, the course provided valuable networking opportunities.
