October 2018, Malcolm Green sitting on Port of Napier consents hearing
Malcolm Green is currently serving as an independent commissioner on a panel of three convened by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council to decide an application by the Port of Napier for resource consents for expanding the port. The other two commissioners are Bill Wasley (chair) (Wasley Knell Consultants Ltd) and Rauru Kirikiri (RK Associates Ltd).
To provide for larger vessels, the Port has applied for resource consents for capital and maintenance dredging, disposal of dredged material at an offshore site, construction of a new wharf, and occupation of the common marine and coastal area.
The hearing was held during August and September. Issues raised by submitters and aired at the hearing included effects on seabed ecology, inshore fisheries and beach erosion. A decision is due in November.
