Mitigation Options Field Day
Streamlined Environmental’s wetland specialist Dr Rebecca Eivers recently presented at an Information Day for Resource Managers, facilitated by NZ Landcare Trust. Rebecca presented on work she has been undertaking on edge of field mitigation options to improve water quality and biodiversity on Cookson Trust Farms in the Piako River catchment. The day included a visit to the farm as part of the field trips.
Rebecca has been engaged by the landowners to provide water quality, riparian management and constructed treatment wetland technical advice regarding key watercourses within their dairy cow and dairy goat farms, situated near Springdale between the Piako and Waitoa Rivers. This work has culminated in a Constructed Treatment Wetland “train” (CTW-train) on the cow dairy farm and Advanced Ripairian Management Zones (ARMs) on both farms. Once the wetland and riparian plants successfully establish, Rebecca will monitor the water quality and biodiversity benefits of these edge of field remediation options. Read a summary of the overall day here, where you can also access a copy of Rebecca’s presentation.
