Kinleith Mill reconsenting

Project
In a whole-of-company effort, SEL recently completed a range of technical studies to support Oji Fibre Solutions in reconsenting wastewater discharges from their Kinleith Mill at Tokoroa. Working with Mark James (Aquatic Environmental Services) and Jacques Boubée (Vaipuhi Consulting), we undertook desktop and field-based studies to assess current state and effects on water quality (Tim Cox, Chris Dada and Ngaire Phillips), freshwater ecology (Rebecca Eivers, Ngaire Phillips, Kendall Leitch) and environmental and human health risks (Mike Stewart). Ngaire coordinated the project and the overall technical report and worked with Mark James to produce the Ecological Effects report, which also incorporated additional technical studies undertaken by NIWA. Our Office Manager Julie Grant provided much-needed support throughout this year-long project. A mammoth effort for our small team!
Outcome
The studies contributed to an Assessment of Effects report for Oji’s discharge consent application, which was submitted in November 2020.
