Marine Science Specialist
Streamlined Environmental Ltd (SEL) is an employee-owned niche environmental science consultancy specializing in research and advice on all aspects of fresh, estuarine and coastal waters throughout New Zealand. We require an additional science team member who can lead the development of SEL’s marine science capability and provide support to the rest of the team across a broad range of technical areas. We are keen to engage a scientist who is willing not only to think outside the box, but to step outside their own box and to challenge themselves, professionally and personally.
We are seeking a person who has knowledge and demonstrated experience in marine science, with a focus on integrated management of land, freshwater and marine resources. Experience in the application of the RMA e.g. expert witness, science support for resource consent applications, technical reviewer for regional councils, commissioner roles etc, is also highly desirable.
This permanent position would suit someone who has an MSc or PhD in marine science and who has at least 5 years’ relevant experience working in a consulting environment. Experience in a regional council or research environment would also be highly regarded.
This is a senior position within our company and the successful candidate would be expected to be able to generate work for themselves and for others within our team. Experience in business development, as well as established networks, is also highly desirable. As a senior employee, the option to become a co-owner and Director of our company is also envisaged for this position in the future, subject to agreement by all parties and provision of suitable training. Governance experience would therefore be useful but is not essential. You will also need a full driver’s license.
Ideally this position would be based at our Hamilton office; however we are willing to consider other New Zealand locations for the right candidate.
